What is RCPD? Its full name is Retrograde Cricopharyngeus Dysfunction. This is a condition which means the person is unable to burp. The cricopharyngeus muscle doesnt relax to allow air to exit the stomach and esophagus.
Symptoms include bloating, inability to burp, gurgling noises from the neck and chest area and excessive flatulence.
The treatment is a botox injection into the cricopharyngeus muscle. The procedure is carried out under general anesthetic, its day surgery and takes between 30 and 60 minutes.
